Don't Faint!

I actually have a few things to share.

As I told you, I'm working with Lillian on cards which some of the church women create for nursing homes. Not all are strictly nursing homes. Some are delivered to assisted living groups as well. I discovered the lists total almost 1,300 residents. The ladies not only create the cards; they deliver them to the homes as well - a huge job on top of a huge job. Hats off to the Church Ladies, or as I refer to them - the CL's.

I met with Lillian to hand over some cards and supplies, and we went to the church activity room where the CL's meet. It was set up for a Senior Women's brunch, and I found it worthy of photos. I think you'll agree.

Finally, I found time to have Mim and Fannie Mae over for lunch. I'm really out of practice. They had to help me finish up when they arrived.

When we did teas at the library in the past, the library coordinator's mother attended. One day, she brought me her collection of Rose Chintz dishes by Johnson Brothers. They're so pretty, and such good quality. I wanted to use them one last time before returning them to her daughter.

We need to talk about the birthday cake. I AGAIN learned that you must be specific in what you want when giving directions. Never assume.

I ordered the cake from the Price Cutter in Nixa. She asked me questions, which I answered, and yes, it was for a woman. I went away expecting to pick up a pretty pink cake decorated with pink swirling frosting and pink roses. 

What I got was a peach-colored cake with multi-colored confetti and two bunches of three-dimensional multi-colored balloons. It looked like a cake for a child. I asked if she could remove the balloons, and told her that I was surprised because I was expecting flowers. I told her I was going to go get a cart and would be right back.

When I returned, she had covered up the spots where the balloons had been removed with two white goofy-looking flowers.

I went over to the case and picked up a strawberry cake and asked her to write the happy birthday message in white.

On the way home, I dropped off the weird cake at the nearby fire station, and told them to enjoy and celebrate Fannie Mae's birthday. They were happy, and Fannie Mae liked her substitution cake. 

Fannie Mae doesn't like to celebrate her birthday except with her sister. This was a delayed lunch which happened to fall on the day after her birthday. Mim brought her a card, and I had previously mailed mine. 

And then I got a wonderful, just because present from both of them; the most beautiful Bible in the whole world. I shall treasure it as one of my most precious gifts.

The lunch was on the day my mother died in 1972. If she had been here, she would have told me that I should have baked that cake myself. She made wonderful cakes and pies, and she had only one cookbook - Betty Crocker. I found one just like it at a library book sale, and find myself collecting any Betty Crocker cookbooks that turn up at the sales.

I want to share a couple of things I've discovered and love. The first is Mr. Clean's new bathroom erasers which work wonders and smell heavenly. I chose the lemon scent. Walmart also had lavender.

My other great find are these wonderful spice jars I found on Amazon. My spices are all sizes and shapes. I bought a spice rack with little glass bottles at a silent auction, but they have preprinted names. Unfortunately, the names they show are, for the most part, spices I don't have. The new set has over 300 labels from which to choose. I have big plans to reorganize my kitchen soon. Stay tuned.

As you know, I'm addicted to YouTube, and the other day a vlog video turned up, and the subject was autumn - my favorite time of year. I started watching a young lady who dresses like a hippy, and decorates like she's just moved into her first place of her own, with things from the thrift stores. And as I watched, I discovered that I really like what she has to say and show, and now I'm addicted to her channel. Besides, her kitty Oberon looks just like my kitty Stormy Weather Milky Chin Pretty Paws. Here's the link: Click Here and don't count her out until you check out one of her parties. On my calendar, autumn starts on September 1, and I'm already planning to really enjoy the season this year, thanks in part to Haley's vlog.

The summer has been long and brutally hot (and will be into late September) so I really feel the need to get out. 

Right now we're having some light rain and cooler temps, for which I am extremely grateful.
