How did 2023 get here so quickly? I love the scripture which says, "This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it." Why not the entire year? I need to be grateful for each and every day, and yes, rejoice in it.
After all those days of working, sometimes six days, Sunday still seems like a day to rest. This year was a double whammy since it was also a holiday. I didn't exactly rest, but I didn't push either.
So far, only four of the seventeen people I sent New Year's cards have acknowledged them
I did my kitty chores, vacuumed, watered plants, changed the wreath, and matched up the card bases with the flower layers for couture cards. They're going to take a lot of time, so I need to get busy if I'm to send them on the 14th.
I changed the wreath
Temps in the 50's today, and some nice days ahead. I must hit the ground running tomorrow.

Still fog on the moors this morning. I vacuumed the breakfast area and swept all the tile floors. Changed sheets and did laundry. Tried on yellow clothes and discarded three tee shirts. Gathered purple clothes. Nice temps up to 70, but dreary most of the day. I needed an allergy pill. Took a nap.
I ate the rainbow. Oatmeal for breakfast.

I did my month-end accounting, eliminated all the JL Christmas cards from history, trash, did the dusting, cleaned the glass-topped tables (8 of them), tried on purple clothes and discarded two tee shirts, washed the dishes on the top level of the tea cart and took photos.
Oatmeal with banana and blueberries.
Chili with cheese and purple onion; lettuce and cucumber salad.

I finally made my black-eyed peas, collard greens, and corn muffins. Ate so many, I couldn't move. Finished a book called In the Shadow of the Manor which ended "to be continued." What?! They should give you a warning before you ever start the book.
I get a check-mark for working on clearning my computer (downloads).
I called ATT and got a $20 credit on my U-verse bill for next month.
Finished off the chili with an open-face omelet and the last English muffin for breakfast. Don't waste!

I cooked the rice, and finally had my New Year's food: Ham, rice for health, black-eyed peas for luck, collard greens for money, and corn muffins. Yum.
I used some of the rice to make rice pudding from a new recipe.

I froze the corn muffins and made three dinners of rice, black-eyed peas, and ham plus two dinners of rice, black-eyed peas, and collards for the freezer. I don't know if collards can be frozen, but we're going to find out.
I did a load of laundry. Art stopped by to say thank you for the gift card. Got Rita's CVS order and sent it in. New insurance card came with a letter saying "Here's your new card for 2022. Really? I tried to change my email address, but got a Chinese untrained girl. Will do it later after my CVS order comes. Cancelled Ancestry. Still no House Speaker. Filed my personal property list online. Swept the indoor patio and scraped the potty box. They love indoor plumbing.

I stayed up until 2:00 a.m., watching the votes for House Speaker. The 15th vote was one short, but Trump called the girl from CO and she voted "Present," and then lots of talking among the Republicans and calls from Trump, and on the 16th vote, the remaining six non-McCarthy hold outs voted "Present," which gave McCarthy enough votes to be elected. I'm glad the 15th vote didn't carry, because he would have been elected on the 6th. By one more voting session, he was elected on January 7. Then we got to see the procedures which followed. All the delegates from CA (Kevin McCarthy is from Bakersfield, CA), plus others from various states (don't know how they were selected), left the chambers and then entered from the rear, just as the president does when giving a state of the union address. They were led by Hakim Jeffries, Democratic House Speaker since Pelosi resigned at the last minute, who gave a corny speech with digs at the Republicans. Then he turned the gavel over to McCarthy who was sworn in, and then gave a brilliant speech, very touching with bits of humor and a pledge to represent all the people, a promise to be transparent, and with an open door policty. I was very proud of him. Then new members were sworn in, plus the court clerk and other committee heads.
I spent the day working on cards and reading The Other Einstein.

I worked on the cards a little. Cut all the card bases and back layers.
