Celebration Time

Let's start with a good laugh. Check out these commercials. Click Here They start at 1:22. There are two commercials with a tweet in between. Watch to the end. So clever.

No one had a suggested name for last post's salads, so I'm not bothering you with the next thirteen. You've probably seen them in the past anyway. I do have two new salads, however, so here we go.

RED AND GREEN SALAD

Salad:
3 cups chopped broccoli florets
1 red eating apple, chopped (don’t peel)
2 Tbs minced red onion
1/4 cup dried cranberries

Dressing:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 Tbs white vinegar
1 Tbs sugar
1/4 tsp salt

Garnish:
1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Mix salad ingredients in a large bowl.

Whisk, shake, mix, or blend dressing ingredients (whatever works for you), and pour over salad.

Cover and chill at least an hour; overnight if you wish.

Stir and garnish just before serving.

This makes four lady-size servings. Can easily be doubled or tripled.

ANTIPASTO SALAD

1/2 head of iceberg or Romaine lettuce, rough chopped
1 cup small pepperoni slices, halved
4 sandwich-size slices cotto salami, chopped
7-oz jar chopped artichoke hearts, marinated or water-packed
1 cup ripe olives, slice if you wish
1 cup shredded Mozzarella
3/4 cup purchased Italian dressing
Grated parmesan for garnish (optional)

Put the lettuce in a very large mixing bowl.

Add the pepperoni, salami, artichoke hearts, olives, and Mozzarella.

Toss lightly.

Mix the dressing together and add. Toss again.

Sprinkle with parmesan, if desired.

Friday I finally reached a point in my yard work where I can finish with only an hour a day. Wow! I can actually have a life again. I was so excited, I went to Wendy's and got a Dave's single hamburger, french fries, and a coke. I only drink cokes when they're free; like on a tour where the meal is furnished and it comes with a drink, or at the casino where you just help yourself. So far, I've been to the casino once this year, and one bus tour, so my intake is limited. I know they're not good for you, but if I've made it this far, a few cokes a year can't do me in.

And while working in the yard, I discovered that I have a resident snake. He's a garter snake, very pretty, and I've named him Stripey. I apologized for tearing up his environment, and I promised to put back some vegetation after the shrub guys leave. In the meantime, he'll have to set up housekeeping in the crepe myrtle, as it stays. And I finally have a date - they'll be here the 21st.

I was feeling so naughty, I got up and ate french toast with strawberries and strawberry freezer jam for breakfast.

No yard work at all Saturday. Elly and I went to the next restaurant on our schedule, and it was not a keeper. It's called Amazin' Asian, and we were not impressed, mainly due to the lack of cleanliness.

They have cute salt and pepper shakers on some of the tables. Ours had little cows, and I saw some rabbits and some Halloween ghosts.

But if you look at the wall behind the condiments, it's all splashed with soy sauce or whatever.

Elly put some of her water on a napkin to pick up the soy sauce and clean the bottle before she'd use it. The other bottles looked sticky as well. But at least they have some color, and I mean COLOR. But we weren't impressed with the stacked up supplies and jugs of bleach against the back wall, plus the entry mat looked as if it hadn't been swept in days.

Elly had Moo Goo Gai Pan with lots of nice veggies.

And I had Sweet and Sour Chicken, expecting green pepper, onion, pineapple, and maybe carrots, but I got this.

The sauce was nice, but not the normal sweet and sour. I did get one token pineapple tidbit, and if you look closely near the bottom, you can see a bit of egg poking out of the alleged fried rice.

I hope to really dig in and chalk up some checkmarks on my bucket list this week. Finished salads - 50; only 2 to go, so I'll finish this week. Then back to soup. Lots of work here. Sixteen to go. And they're all italics except one, which means I have to develop the recipe. I just need to make Almond Soup for a new photo, as I'm actually making a place setting for each one, as a photo of a bowl or pot of soup can be very blah. All are subject to change. This is just my beginning outline.

That's all I have this week. I took advantage of the cooler temps and hit the yardwork really hard. Fortunately, I live only a short distance from the recycle yard where I dump the yard waste, so that helped. I hope this week will be more fun, and I'll have something to share next time.
